Ronald Barnes, M.D., M.P.H. (Family Practice, Occupational & Environmental Medicine) completed his undergraduate training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Barnes received his medical degree from the Universidad del Noroeste in Tampico, Mexico. His internship was at the University of Health Sciences Chicago Medical School. His family practice residency training was at St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, where he served as chief resident. He has also received an MPH degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Barnes is board eligible in both Family Medicine and Preventive Medicine. He is board certified in Forensic Medicine and is a certified Disability Analyst and Medical Review Officer.
Entering private practice in 1987, Dr Barnes has practiced in both rural & urban settings as a Family Medicine physician, Emergency Medicine physician and Occupational Medicine physician. He was the founding director of Northwoods Emergency Services in Northeast Wisconsin, and has initiated multiple Occupational Medicine practices. Dr. Barnes currently serves as the north region medical director of Occupational Medicine & Total Health for Aurora Health Care. He is currently on the medical staff at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay where he serves as Employee Health Director. He is the medical director for over 300 national & regional corporations, including the Manitowoc Corporation, Bay Ship Building, and Integrys Energy Corporation. He consults corporations & government agencies on issues ranging from preventive health, on-site clinics, disability to toxicology. He lectures frequently on multiple topics, but has a special interest in “equal rights for women & minorities in the workplace”. Hobbies include cross country skiing, tennis and writing. He is fluent in Spanish and is conversive in both Hungarian & German.

Program Purpose/Objectives:
To provide a review of medical and psychological issues regarding women’s health issues encountered by the Family Physician and physicians in other specialties as well as psychologists and other health care personnel. To highlight and explore in depth current
medical and psychological concerns of women in regard to themselves, their intimate relationships, their children and/or parents – such as anxiety disorders, sexual dysfunctions, affective disorders, eating disorders, migraine headaches, psycho-cardiology problems, and decisions regarding cosmetic surgery and chronic pain syndrome.
At the end of the activity participants should be able to:1. Discuss frequent areas of emotional difficulties that women face
2. Identify how self efficacy is intertwined with self confidence, self image and body image
3. Identify ways to manage stress and reduce overload throughout women’s life cycle
4. Provide guidelines for maximizing women’s mental health
6. Address the self in close relationships utilizing a loneliness to intimacy continuum
7. Care about and contribute to others by working within a family, friends, colleagues and community framework
8. Appropriately refer for individual, couples or family therapy
9. Asses periodically if therapy is helping
10. Evaluate if pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy or both is the best course of treatment
11. Discuss potential positive and negative psychological repercussions of cosmetic surgery
