PORTS OF CALL

Los Angeles, California - Los Angeles is a relatively young city, barely over a century old. This 467-square-mile desert basin is not only the center of the world's film industry; it also plays a major role in television, fashion, music and art. No wonder some of the world's most famous individuals choose L.A. as their home. The sunsets over the Pacific are nothing less than spectacular, and there are 72 miles of incredible oceanfront beaches from which to enjoy them.

Santa Barbara, California - Founded in the 18th century as the 10th Franciscan mission in California, Santa Barbara's heritage is one of its biggest draws. Zoning laws keep the city preserved in time as the adobe look in its architecture is maintained even as new constructions spring up around town. There's also a wonderfully welcoming fragrance in the city, a mixture of oranges, jasmine and blossoming flowers.

San Francisco, California - Much has been written about the Bay Area. From its seafood and sourdough breads to Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco is the ideal city for visitors. Trolleys and prominent landmarks make getting around this eclectic metropolis easy. One of the best views in town can be had from the Coit Tower, one of the most prominent landmarks in the city and a fine example of Art Deco architecture.

Monterey, CA - Monterey, California This is one of the truly magical places in California. Aside from its magnificent golf courses and proximity to Fisherman's Wharf and Big Sur, Monterey boasts an eclectic mix of shops, art galleries and restaurants, not to mention one of the world's premier aquariums.

At Sea - Cruising - Cruising

Catalina Island - Known to divers for its spectacular wall diving, this deserted island is ringed by gorgeous beaches and crystal clear water.

San Diego, California - Easygoing San Diego embodies the Southern California surfer town fantasy, with its more than 300 days of sun, mild year-round temperatures and accessible, sporty pastimes and tourist attractions. Hike the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve to get a glimpse of whale migrations, go sailing in the bay and, of course, surf the famous swells of Del Mar, Oceanside and La Jolla (among many other superb spots). Old Town, North Park, Point Loma and Coronado are all within a few miles of the port, while the bustling Gaslamp Quarter and Little Italy are within walking distance.
And while there are lots of things to do for everyone on a San Diego Cruise—from visiting the country’s largest urban park to taking in the famous horse-racing season in Del Mar to riding the charming Old Town Trolley—definitely don’t pass up the chance to investigate San Diego’s quickly growing reputation as a culinary destination. Its inventive new restaurants and huge craft-brewing industry are something to be explored.

Ensenada, Mexico - South of the border, alongside mountains, desert and sea, Ensenada offers a warm and wonderful introduction to Mexico. The oldest community on the Baja Peninsula, it was first visited by Spanish missionaries in the 17th century. Today it's a thriving seaport. Ensenada's breezy climate invites exploration, shopping for colorful handicrafts, dining on delectable seafood, viewing the wonderful Gold Coast, and sipping cervezas in lively cantinas.
