Course Description

Cutaneous Manifestations of Endocrine Diseases

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

To get an understanding of the cutaneous manifestations of endocrine disorders
To create a general awareness regarding the diagnosis and management of cutaneous manifestations of endocrine disorders
To get an understanding of skin as an endocrine organ

OVERVIEW OF TOPIC:

Skin manifestations are important features of many endocrine diseases. Often skin lesions are the first symptom of the disease and lead to the diagnosis of the condition. Their recognition is thus of relevance for early diagnosis and treatment of endocrine disorders.

Mostly, the clinical features are associated with the physiological effects of the hormones to the skin, for the skin is the target organ for a variety of hormones. In endocrine overproduction, the skin lesions are identical as in over dosage of exogenous hormones.

In general, skin lesions do not need a special treatment, but their symptoms vary with the intensity of the endocrine disease.

Human skin also produces certain hormones which are released in the circulation and are important for functions of the entire body. The talk will explore this special area as well.

Dr.Hanish Babu, MD is an Indian Dermatologist & Venereologist practicing in UAE since 1996.

Dr.Hanish Babu Started his practice in 1983, first as a general physician and then as a specialist dermatologist since 1989. He worked as a general physician among the tribals of Wayanad in the southern Indian state of Kerala from 1983 to 1989. He joined City Medical Centre, Ajman in 1996 as Specialist Dermatologist & Venereologist.

As a dermatologist, Dr.Babu has come across all forms of skin diseases in his busy practice. His patients belong to all nationalities and cultures. He is an avid educator and spends quality time with his patients both in his consultancy and during the group therapy sessions he conducts for psychodermatoses like psoriasis, urticaria, eczema, neurodermatitis etc. He is also a regular speaker in the Continuing Medical Education Programmes for Healthcare professionals in UAE and abroad. As a hobby and social service Dr Babu conducts stress management workshops for different groups.

He is also active in many social and professional organizations and is at present the President of AKMG Emirates, the Association of Kerala Medical and Dental Graduates, working in the UAE, formed in 2003 by the AKMG US. He is a life member of IADVL (Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists) and IMA (Indian Medical Association).

Dr. Sughu Malayil Koshy is a Dental practitioner at Al Noor Clinic, Umm Al Quwain, United Arab Emirates and a Faculty in Dental Ethics Community Dentistry / Public Health dentistry. He is formerly the Faculty in Community Dentistry and Ethics at Gulf Medical University, Ajman, UAE and RAK Medical & Health Sciences University, Ras Al Khaimah, UAE. Dr. Koshy is an active speaker in the region and has many presentations at National and International conferences to his credit. His areas of interests as speaker include Preventive Concepts in Dentistry, Ethics in Dental Practice and Evidence Based Dentistry.

Dr. Sughu Koshy completed Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Annamalai University, Chidambaran, India in 1992. He finished MSc in Community Dental Practice from King's college London, UK with Merit and was also awarded Diploma in Dental Public Health (DDPHRCS) from the Royal College of surgeons of England. He is a member of the British Association for the Study of Community Dentistry (BASCD), European Association of Dental Public health (EADPH), and member Indian Dental Association.

Dr. Sughu Koshy is currently the Secretary General of AKMG Emirates for the term 2019-2021.
