PORTS OF CALL
Athens (Piraeus), Greece - Athens brought the world drama, history, poetry, and philosophy. Once home to the world's most powerful and civilized empires, Athens is now the world's foremost archaeological playground. The towering columns of the Parthenon still stand in homage to the virgin goddess Athena
At Sea - Cruising - Cruising
Valletta, Malta - Tiny Malta abounds in forts and temples. In Valletta, wander through the ornate Grand Master's Palace of the Knights of St. John. Within the thick walls of Medina, the Silent City (no cars), visit the serene Baroque cathedral.
Trapani, Italy - Bright stone buildings, Phoenician fortifications and centuries of monuments - these are just a few of Trapani's delights. The scythe-shaped town extends out to sea with Mount Erice towering above and the Tower of Ligny, a majestic landmark. Under Arab rule, Trapani was a thriving port for the production of salt, tuna, and coral. The city became famous in the 16th century for the beautiful pieces produced by Trapanese coral artisans. A lovely collection of their work can be seen in the Pepoli Museum.
Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy - Cagliari is a capital rich in art, culture, and Sardinian pride whose medieval heart is a fascinating fortified district. Outside the city discover pre-historic monuments, ancient ruins, gorgeous beaches and enduring local traditions.
Cartagena, Spain - History here runs deep, back to ancient Carthage. Along Cartagena's narrow streets you'll also find a mix of old churches, Baroque palaces, 19th-century mansions and Modernist architecture plus lively restaurants, cafes and bars.
Malaga, Spain - Málaga is the gateway to the Andalusian countryside and the Costa del Sol, some of the regions most impressive beaches. It also is home to a number of magnificent palaces, including the Moorish Alcabaza and Gibralfaro.
Gibraltar - As long as the Barbary Apes remain, the British will rule Gibraltar‐this is the tradition that has held for 350 years. These pesky primates are a favorite with visitors despite their incessant chatter and light-fingered ways.
Ride to the top of the Rock for great views over the Strait of Gibraltar‐on a clear day you'll see Africa.
Lisbon, Portugal - Make your own discoveries in the city that launched the Age of Discovery. Cross the River Tagus on its soaring suspension bridge. Wander the maze of streets in the Alfama, the old Moorish quarter, dominated by the medieval Castle of St. George where peacocks strut and shriek. Stroll the Baixa, shop for elegant shoes.
