Program Purpose / Objectives

In an age of all ceramic restorations, Dentists have a tremendous opportunity to create smiles that are remarkably beautiful. Porecelain technology has encouraged a high percentage of Dentists to treat more and more difficult problems, from cosmetic to severe wear cases. But these cases should come with a friendly warning:

  • CAUTION: do not attempt to treat this case unless you fully understand the cause and affect relationships of the Masticatory System!

This course is designed to help each participant understand the key dynamics of Functionally Esthetic Occlusions.

The Masticatory System is beautifully designed with functional relationships between the muscles, joints, and occlusion. Teeth must be restored in harmonious balance. This requires a clear understanding of proper joint positioning, vertical dimension of occlusion, anterior guidance, the neutral zone, the envelope of function, and incisal edge position. Functionally Esthetic Occlusions are adversely affected by unstable TMJoints, Neuro-muscular Parafunction, and Non-functional factors such as Eating Disorders. All of these factors can be evaluated, diagnosed, and successfully treated by the well informed clinician.

The goal of this course is to help each participant improve their skills as a Restorative/Cosmetic Dentist and as a Physician of the Masticatory System. This will include treatment planning diagnostic study models, the role of occlusal splint therapy, and equilibration procedures.

The Dawson Academy is designated as a nationally approved sponsor for the Academy of General Dentistry. The formal continuing education programs of this sponsor are accepted by the AGD for Fellowship, Mastership, and membership maintenance credit.

    Learning Objectives:
  • Develop a clear understanding of Masticatory System Dynamics
  • Develop a clear understanding of Functional Occlusion
  • Develop a clear understanding of Functional Smile Design
  • Develop a systematic approach to Restorative Treatment Planning
  • Develop a systematic approach to Problem Solving Masticatory System Disorders(“TMJ” Disorders)
Conference Sessions generally take place on days at sea (as itinerary allows), giving you plenty of time to enjoy your meals, evenings and ports of call with your companion, family and friends.

Ports of Call
Athens (Piraeus), Greece - You'll climb the Acropolis, the site of ancient Athens, crowned by the immortal Parthenon. Its chiseled columns were raised by Pericles, Athens's great general. Rest your running shoes in the temple of Nike. A little shopping and souvlaki in the Plaka and you're practically an (ancient) Athenian!
Bari, Italy - Fairy-tale houses that look like chanterelle mushrooms. Alberobello's little round houses with the cone-topped roofs are called trulli -- and they are truly unique. Their origins are ancient -- some date from 3000 B.C. And they are only found here.
Corfu, Greece - Corfu greets you with sunny beaches, miles of cypress groves and the opulent villas of 19th century European royalty.
Dubrovnik, Croatia - This ancient city is set on a peninsula and surrounded by a 1,000 year old protective wall. Said to be one of the prettiest spots in the world, visitng it's old-city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is like stepping back in time. Or into another world, Dubrovnik is the principal filming location for King's Landing from the blovkbuster book (and television series) "Game of Thrones."
Mykonos, Greece - For pure Mediterranean pizzazz, Mykonos can't be beat. Designer boutiques and beautifully bronzed Greek gods and goddesses lie on Mykonos' beaches. And Mykonos' famous five white churches look down on it all in oblivious serenity.
Venice, Italy - Venice is possibly the most romantic place you'll ever visit. It seems almost redundant to describe the charms of Venice. The cafes of St. Mark's Square, Palazzo-lined canals plied by gondolas, the elegant Doge's Palace, the Bridge of Sighs and the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore: Venice is one impossibly beautiful sight after next. A great collection of Renaissance era art is housed at Gallerie dell'Accademia. Or, if you prefer modern art, Venice is home to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. And, if you want to enjoy a truly special meal while here, visit one of the excellent restaurants of the Associazione dei Ristoranti della Buona Accoglienza.

TravelSafe.comPlease visit TravelSafe.com for travel insurance information.

Cruise Line cancellation policies are strictly enforced. For that reason, we urge all of our travelers to carefully consider whether travel insurance is a good value for them.

Certainly, if you have reason to think that "something might come up" that might force you to cancel, travel insurance is worth the cost of the premium. Examples we've seen in the past include ill or frail family members and changes in employment causing relocation.

If travel insurance is the right choice for you, we recommend TravelSafe. To visit their site and explore your options click here or on the link above. The cruise lines also offer travel insurance and we'd be happy to help you go that route if you'd prefer.
