González" at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, and practices at the Hospital Christus Muguerza Alta Especialidad. Dr. Martínez Villarreal earned his medical degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León before completing his internal medicine training at Christus Muguerza Hospital. He subsequently pursued dermatology training at the Hospital General de México and completed a dermatology fellowship at the University of Miami Hospital in Florida.
A distinguished leader in the global medical community, Dr. Martínez Villarreal serves on the Board of Directors for the International Society of Dermatology and is an International Honorary Member of the American Dermatological Association.
He is a prolific researcher and author with a publication history spanning decades. Dr. Martínez Villarreal has authored numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed articles in highly regarded journals such as the International Journal of Dermatology, Clinical and Experimental Dermatology, and Dermatología Revista Mexicana. His extensive clinical research focuses heavily on the intersection of internal medicine and dermatology, with particular expertise in severe cutaneous adverse reactions (such as Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and DRESS syndrome), generalized pustular psoriasis, autoimmune bullous diseases, and tropical dermatology.

Kenneth Tomecki, MD, FAAD, is a staff physician and Vice Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at the Cleveland Clinic, where he has practiced since 1980. He earned his undergraduate degree from Columbia College and his medical degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Tomecki completed his internship and dermatology residency at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, followed by a prestigious fellowship at the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
A clinician and educator whose expertise covers the gamut of adult clinical dermatology, Dr. Tomecki has special interests in infectious diseases and medical education. He is a highly distinguished leader in his specialty, having served as President of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) from 2021 to 2022, and as Vice President from 2016 to 2017. He has dedicated extensive service to the AAD, including time on the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, and numerous task forces. Furthermore, he is a former Vice President of both the International Society of Dermatology and the American Dermatological Association.
An active lecturer on both national and international stages, Dr. Tomecki has authored more than 100 primary and secondary publications, including over 40 book chapters. He has also served as an assistant editor and editorial board member for the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD). Beyond his extensive medical career, he enjoys politics, history, baseball, and spending time with his wife of over 40 years, Eileen, and their family.

While many travelers treat Port Canaveral merely as a functional transit point, anchoring your cruise with a two- or three-day stay in Central Florida transforms a simple Caribbean loop into a diverse journey. Extending your trip allows you to combine the engineering marvels of the Space Coast with the surprisingly sophisticated cultural and culinary landscape of Orlando and Winter Park. Arriving early also provides a vital buffer against flight delays, ensuring you board your ship relaxed and ready to vacation.
Practical Arrival and Logistics
The drive between Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Port Canaveral takes approximately 45 to 50 minutes via SR-528 (The Beachline Expressway). We strongly recommend a rental car if you plan to explore Winter Park or the Kennedy Space Center, as it offers the freedom to move between districts without relying on surging ride-share prices. Traffic in the greater Orlando area, particularly on I-4, is notoriously heavy; always pad your travel times by 30 minutes. For accommodations, consider splitting your stay: book your first night in the upscale enclave of Winter Park or the modern Lake Nona area, and your final pre-cruise night closer to the port in Cocoa Beach or Cape Canaveral.
Day 1 — Winter Park and Culinary Exploration
Skip the neon lights of International Drive and head 50 minutes west of the port to Winter Park. This historic, affluent enclave offers a European-style pacing that provides a stark contrast to the region's theme parks. Center your afternoon on Park Avenue, a cobblestone thoroughfare lined with independent boutiques and canopy oaks. A short taxi or shuttle ride leads to Mahahual, a neighboring fishing village that offers a genuine slice of coastal Mexican life. Here, a pedestrian malecón runs parallel to the water, lined with unpretentious beach clubs and local eateries serving fresh seafood. It provides a relaxed, low-stress beach day far superior to the crowded pool decks back at the ship.
Culturally, Costa Maya is the strategic access point for the Chacchoben Mayan ruins. Unlike the arduous travel required for Chichén Itzá, Chacchoben is accessible via a moderate drive, offering a fascinating, less-crowded introduction to ancient architecture set within a jungle teeming with wildlife. Alternatively, nature enthusiasts should consider the journey to Lake Bacalar. Known as the "Lagoon of Seven Colors," this freshwater marvel offers stunning turquoise waters and a tranquil atmosphere distinct from the ocean coast. Frankly, Falmouth's greatest strength is its strategic location as a launchpad for Jamaica's iconic North Coast adventures. This is your best port for the classic bamboo raft trip down the gentle Martha Brae River—a truly serene experience just minutes away. It also provides excellent access to the lush Good Hope Estate for zip-lining and river tubing, or for the bucket-list climb up the world-famous Dunn's River Falls. Our advice is to view Falmouth not as the primary destination, but as your well-organized gateway to the quintessential Jamaican experiences you've been dreaming of.
Labadee, Haiti

Labadee is a private coastal peninsula offering a meticulously managed day of sun and adventure. The setting is undeniably beautiful, with lush, green hillsides meeting turquoise water. You can choose your pace: relax on the sands of Columbus Cove, or seek out the thrills of Adrenaline Beach. The main attractions are purpose-built, including the Dragon’s Breath Zipline, which offers spectacular views as you soar over the bay, and a unique alpine coaster that winds through the tropical vegetation. While there are artisan markets with local crafts, it's important to set expectations: this is a self-contained resort experience.
