Nancye McCowan, MD, is a Professor of Dermatology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She served as the institution's inaugural Dermatology Residency Program Director until 2024, during which time her program received a "notable practice" designation in 2013 and a commendation from the ACGME in 2016.
Dr. McCowan attended Rhodes College before earning her medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (AOA), where she also completed her dermatology residency. Following her training, she served in the United States Air Force and held academic positions at the University of Arkansas and the University of Nebraska before moving to Mississippi. Throughout her career, she has been deeply involved in medical education, providing bedside and didactic instruction and mentoring scores of medical students.
A frequently recognized physician, Dr. McCowan has been listed among America’s Top Dermatologists and Best Doctors on numerous occasions. She has authored 16 book chapters and peer-reviewed articles, and she has presented at dozens of regional and national meetings. She also represented the UMMC Department of Dermatology on the "Southern Remedy" syndicated radio broadcast. Outside of her medical practice, Dr. McCowan is an accomplished equestrienne who has won a host of championships and top-five finishes in regional and national competitions over the past two decades.
