PORTS OF CALL

Paris, France

Your journey along the Seine begins in the heart of France, but to truly embrace the spirit of this voyage, consider Paris not merely as your point of embarkation, but as the essential first chapter of your story. Arriving a day or two early transforms the start of your trip from a logistical necessity into a rich, immersive cultural experience, allowing you to acclimate, overcome jet lag, and dive headfirst into the magic of the “City of Light” before you even step aboard your vessel.

Upon arrival at Charles de Gaulle (CDG) or Orly (ORY) airport, the city is readily accessible. The RER B train offers a direct and efficient link to central Paris, while options like the Roissybus or a pre-booked shuttle provide comfortable alternatives. A classic Parisian taxi offers the most direct route to your hotel, allowing you a front-row seat to your first glimpses of the city’s iconic Haussmannian architecture.

**A Suggested 48-Hour Parisian Prelude**

**Day 1: Arrival, Atmosphere & a Touch of Magic**

After settling into your accommodations, resist the urge to nap. Instead, step out and let the city energize you. A perfect first foray is a leisurely stroll through a quintessential Parisian neighborhood. Consider Saint-Germain-des-Prés on the Left Bank, once the haunt of existentialists and artists, now home to chic galleries, historic cafés like Les Deux Magots, and the serene Luxembourg Gardens. Alternatively, lose yourself in the medieval lanes of Le Marais on the Right Bank, a district brimming with history, hidden courtyards, unique boutiques, and a vibrant Jewish quarter.

Find a seat at a sidewalk café, order a coffee or a glass of wine, and simply watch the world go by. This is not time wasted; it is a vital part of the Parisian experience. For dinner, seek out a classic bistro for hearty, soulful French cuisine—think steak frites, coq au vin, or a perfectly savory French onion soup. As evening descends, cap off your day with an unforgettable Bateaux-Mouches cruise along the Seine. Seeing the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and the Louvre illuminated against the night sky is a truly magical introduction to the city and a perfect preview of the river journey to come.

**Day 2: Art, Icons & Culinary Discovery**

With a full day ahead, you can immerse yourself in Paris’s unparalleled cultural treasures. While the Louvre is a world unto itself, for a more focused and equally breathtaking experience, consider the Musée d'Orsay. Housed in a magnificent former railway station, its collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces by Monet, Manet, Degas, and Van Gogh is simply astounding. For a more intimate encounter with art, the Musée Rodin, with its tranquil sculpture garden featuring “The Thinker,” offers a beautiful and contemplative escape.

In the afternoon, choose your own adventure. Ascend the hill to Montmartre to admire the stunning white domes of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica and enjoy panoramic city views. Watch the artists at work in the Place du Tertre and wander the charming, village-like streets that were once home to Picasso and Renoir. Or, explore the Île de la Cité, the historic heart of Paris, to admire the resilient grandeur of Notre Dame Cathedral from the outside and browse the legendary shelves of the Shakespeare and Company bookstore.

Your pre-cruise stay is also a culinary journey. Start your day like a local at a *boulangerie* with a warm, flaky croissant. For lunch, grab a delicious crêpe from a street stand or enjoy a classic *croque monsieur* at a brasserie. Don’t forget to indulge in the delicate artistry of a macaron from Ladurée or Pierre Hermé. For your final evening, celebrate with a memorable meal in the Latin Quarter or find a restaurant with a view that will cement your love for the city.

On embarkation day, you will wake up refreshed and already steeped in the culture of France. Enjoy a final Parisian breakfast before a comfortable, pre-arranged transfer to your ship, ready to begin the next phase of your adventure with a wealth of memories already made. By arriving early, you give yourself the gift of time—the time to explore, to savor, and to truly connect with one of the world's most beloved destinations.

What Can Travel Insurance Help Protect?

Allianz Travel Insurance plans can protect you before and during your trip—keeping you, your loved ones, and your travel budget safer. Benefits vary by plan, and these are brief descriptions. Please read your plan documents for details.

TRIP CANCELLATION

Reimburses your prepaid, non-refundable travel expenses if you need to cancel your trip due to a covered reason, such as you, a family member, or traveling companion experiencing a covered illness or injury. Examples include:

  • A doctor says you or a traveling companion is too sick to fly
  • Your parent or child requires hospitalization
  • You need to attend the birth of a family member’s child
  • You have a traffic accident (not breakdown) on the way to the airport
  • A storm shuts down your airport for 24 hours or more

TRIP INTERRUPTION

Reimburses your unused, non-refundable travel expenses and increased transportation costs during your trip if you have to return home early due to a covered reason, for instance when a family member has a qualifying medical emergency and needs your care. Examples include:

  • You have a covered illness or injury and a doctor says you must return home
  • A family member has a qualifying injury and needs your care
  • A covered emergency, like a fire or flood, makes your home uninhabitable

TRAVEL DELAY

If you have a covered delay while traveling, travel insurance can reimburse you for meals, accommodations, and transportation expenses when your trip is delayed for a minimum number of consecutive hours for a covered reason. Minimum number of hours varies by plan.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL AND DENTAL CARE

Reimburses your expenses related to covered medical and dental emergencies* that might occur on your trip. This benefit can be especially helpful if you have a covered emergency outside the United States, as most health insurance policies won’t cover you outside the country. Examples include:

  • You slip and break your ankle while sightseeing
  • You get food poisoning while sampling the local cuisine
  • You lose a filling and need immediate dental treatment*

*A sublimit and maximum apply for this benefit. Check your plan documents for details.

Wed Sep 6 "Hidden Paris" Tour

Thu Sep 7 Montmartre tour & Embarkation
After checking out of your hotel, visit Montmartre, long known as the city's premier artist's enclave. During the mid to late 1800s, artists also began calling Montmartre home. Montmartre's most recognizable landmark is the Basilica du Sacré-Coeur, constructed from 1876 to 1912. The white dome of this Roman Catholic basilica sits at the highest point in the city.
