He has practiced pain medicine for several years, with special emphasis on the evaluation and management of patients suffering from chronic pain in the eyes. His clinical research has focused on the prevention of transition from acute to chronic pain, and currently on management of chronic ocular pain. His basic research includes investigations of neuronal ion channels and signal transduction in peripheral neuropathic pain. He has published extensively in peer reviewed biomedical journals and written numerous book chapters pertinent to his specialties.
