Dr. Robert Gauer earned his medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine and completed his residency in Family Medicine at DeWitt Army Medical Center, Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and completed a Faculty Development Fellowship at the University of North Carolina. He also holds a Designation of Focused Practice in Hospital Medicine. He has been an Associate Director of Residency training for the largest Army Family Medicine residency program and currently serves as hospitalist faculty for the Internal Medicine residency program at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, NC. He remains active working as an emergency medicine physician at level III through IV trauma centers.
Dr. Gauer's greatest passion is graduate medical education providing training and mentorship for residents, medical, pharmacy, and advanced practice provider students. His primary interest are management of inpatient chronic medical conditions, cardiology, critical care, emergency medicine, environmental medicine, diabetes and hematology care. He has published over 60 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals in support of evidence-based best practices and serves as a peer reviewer for the Jounal of Family Practice, American Family Physician, The BMJ and JAMA. In his free time he enjoys travel, sightseeing and european sports cars.
