Target Audience
Dentists, Dental Staff
Program Purpose / Objectives

The dental practitioner is continually challenged in periodontal care with customizing treatment for the restorative patient. Complicating the decision process is the influence of patient esthetic expectations and economic considerations. And the lack of evidenced based studies on new emerging technologies creates a level of confusion for all dental health care professionals. Our candid translational discussion will impact "Monday morning" decision making while creating a productive restorative and dental hygiene component of the practice . By creating "hands-on" decision making situations, participants will have the opportunity to engage in patient cases. Real time demonstrations in laser and ultrasonic management will be utilized to provide "perio pearls" .

Session One
Tuesday, July 9: 8-10am:

I. Advanced Periodontal/Restorative Treatment plan

  • When to extract: implant versus retaining the dentition
  • Characteristics of long term tooth survival

II. Anatomy of the esthetic periodontal smile

  • Value of attached gingivae

Session Two
Wednesday, July 10: 7-9am

I. Utilizing power driven instrumentation for perio disease management

  • Equipment selection for micro ultrasonics

II. Managing perio implant mucositis and perio implantitis for success

Session Three
Friday, July 12: 8am - Noon and 1-5pm

I. Periodontal restorative crown length: blade versus laser

  • Demonstration of gingival diode laser surgery

II. Enhancing reduction of wound inflammation with topical antioxidants

Course Objectives

  1. Enhance esthetic results by manipulating gingivae via augmentation and removal
  2. Determine the role of laser therapy in periodontics including crown lengthening and managing the periodontal patient
  3. Consider the laser for degranulation, curettage and attachment enhancement
  4. Create true success by positive case acceptance and establishing long-term maintenance goals
  5. Develop decision making protocols in choosing between various forms of ultrasonic power instrumentation and various micro thin tips
  6. Decrease physical fatigue and ailments by the clinician by minimizing traditional instrumentation
  7. Evaluate new topical anti inflammatory medications as anti oxidants

Ports of Call
Barcelona, Spain - Barcelona is a one of a kind, world-class city. While away the day exploring the beautiful, tree-shaded Las Ramblas. Or, marvel at its fantastic Art Nouveau architecture, with dozens of buildings that seem to have been sculpted from the stuff of dreams, like the Sagrada Familia Cathedral. For the more worldly, shop for exquisite Lladro ceramics, chic spanish fashions or enjoy a cuisine that many say has rival's the French for the title of world's best.
Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy - Plan your time here carefully, as the Eternal City's sights are endless: the Colosseum, the Forum, the Sistine Chapel, the Vatican and so much more.
Genoa, Italy - A commercial port, genteel seaside resort, fine 16th century palaces in a town proud of its history and legend which was the native place of Christopher Columbus
Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain - Floating gemlike off Spain's Mediterranean Riviera, these islands offer you pearls, pottery and perfectly sublime sandy beaches. Visit Valldemosa, where George Sand and Frederic Chopin spent a romantic winter in 1838.

Cruise Line cancellation policies are strictly enforced. For that reason, we urge all of our travelers to carefully consider whether travel insurance is a good value for them.

Certainly, if you have reason to think that "something might come up" that might force you to cancel, travel insurance is worth the cost of the premium. Examples we've seen in the past include ill or frail family members and changes in employment causing relocation.

If travel insurance is the right choice for you, we recommend TravelSafe. To visit their site and explore your options click here or on the link above. The cruise lines also offer travel insurance and we'd be happy to help you go that route if you'd prefer.
