PROGRAM PURPOSE

Joint Commission Leadership Standard LD.02.04.01 requires that "the hospital manages conflict between leadership groups to protect the quality and safety of care."

It is clear that the Joint Commission expects each hospital and its medical staff to have a dispute resolution mechanism in place. However, other than for the basic elements of the process (Elements of Performance under LD.02.04.01), the JC leaves it up to each hospital to fashion their own means of compliance. Most have simply adopted policies that mimic the JC's directives, but are short on detail, essentially leaving conflict resolution to a case-by-case process.

Unfortunately, this typically results in the parties falling into their familiar routine: "lawyering up" and setting the litigation machine into motion. Similarly healthcare providers need to more effective utilize negotiation, mediation and other conflict resolution strategies to improve medical care and reduce the potential for medical malpractice litigation.

Current updates on on essential cardiology topics and current American College of Cardiology guidelines will be given. The  goal is to improve practice and patient outcomes to make sure cliicians are updated on the  most recent practice patterns to include current  treatments  and provide a modern day approach to cardiology.

Topics:
  1. Introduction to Health Care Conflicts
    • Describe different types of healthcare conflicts (ADR)
  2. Methods of Dispute Resolution in Healthcare

  6. Mediation of Medical Ethics Complaints
    • Summarize mediation strategies to address bioethics issues
  7. Mediation and Negotiation Strategies to Resolve Other Conflicts
    • Summarize the role of negotiation and mediation methods to resolve other healthcare issues
  8. Atrial Fibrillation
    • Modern treatment for Afib: when to treat, rate, when to consider conversion, and the role of ablation
  9. CHF: modern day treatment including the role of device therapy
    • Learn the difference between systolic and  diastolic CHF, when to consider implantation of a CardioMEMS device
  10. DVT and PE: modern day treatment
    • When to consider catheter directed lysis for DVT or PE.

  12. Peripheral Vascular Disease
    • Identify PAD risk factors.
    •   Learn  inteventional technologies to treat this  disorder.
  13. Pre-operative testing
    • Which patients need pre-op testing.
    •  How to lower the risk for events.

PORTS OF CALL

Southampton (London), England - "Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." Samuel Johnson's famous words are as true today as when he spoke them. A visitor to London could fill a month with fascinating people, art, music, late-night dancing, fabulous shopping, an endless array of pubs and first rate meals.

Tourists should take in Victoria Station, the beauty of Westminster Abbey, Parliament, and the pomp of Buckingham Palace. And then, there are the "Elgin Marbles" at the British Museum and the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London. Or visit Sherlock Holmes' HQ on Baker Street (you know the address). After all that, make what might be the most important stop of all: grab a pint at one of the many corner pubs that's been hosting revelers since before America was a nation.

At Sea - Cruising - Cruising

Gijon, Spain - Beautiful green landscapes meet rural countrysides in Gijón, which started as a fishing village 3,000 years ago. Situated on the coast of Spain's famed Asturias region, this beautiful city offers an attractive combination of seafaring flavor, historic buildings and modern urban development. Most of the streets are cobblestone, barely two cars wide and pave the way to many renovated buildings that display the colorful life of the village. At the end of your day, visit a Sidrería (cider bar) and sample a bottle of the regional alcoholic specialty accompanied by a tapa or two - they say you haven't visited Asturias until you've tried cider.

Bilbao, Spain - Bilbao, Spain's sixth-largest city, is being revitalized with the help of astounding strides in art and architecture. New life arrived in this commercial/industrial hub via the astonishing Bilbao Guggenheim Museum; the new, sleek glass and steel tube metro system; and the stunning glass-decked parabolic arch footbridge above the Nervion River. Bilbao also provides an excellent home base from which to explore the diverse Basque country, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pyrenees.

La Coruna, Spain - La Coruna has tons to offer the curious traveler. You can explore the delightful region of Spain known as Galacia, see a Roman lighthouse built in the second century which is still in use today, and glimpse La Coruna'a ancient past in the celtic stone monoliths. Appreciaters of nature can look out over the verdant countryside, small coves, and magnificent coastlines.

Paris (Le Havre), France - Paris is an iconic city — a melange of everything artistic and sublime, with a worldwide reputation for excellence in cuisine, fashion, architecture and the fine arts. After you take the drive in from the port (just over two hours), hit the streets to see the city's monumental landmarks: Pass through the Arc de Triomphe, and stand in the presence of the Eiffel Tower. The beauty here is only matched by the history and culture. Cruise to Paris to feel the cool morning air outside Gothic Notre Dame cathedral, and see works from prehistoric to postmodern at the Louvre. At evening, walk the lamplit avenues as restaurants' wooden tables and rattan chairs spill onto the sidewalks and terraces. Pull up a seat, order a glass of vin rougeand a plate of pate on toast, and dive in.

Your Distinguished Chauffeur Tour of Great Britain

Tour available May - September 2020

Date Description
Day 1 London-Cotswolds: Today's first destination is Oxford to have a chance to visit the world-famous university. Most of the colleges and university buildings are in the centre of Oxford, within easy walking distance of each other.

Visit the Bodleian Library, which has its own shop, and the nearby Radcliffe Camera, which is not open to the public, but is well worth a view from the outside.
Nearby, in Broad Street, is the Sheldonian Theatre, a venue for official university functions as well as a variety of concerts, the Ashmolean Museum on Beaumont Street, Britain's oldest public museum and if you climb the stairs you are treated to a view from Carfax Tower.

You may wish to take a stroll in the Oxford Botanic Gardens or visit one of the other numerous Oxford Museums. Leaving Oxford, you will travel a short distance to St. Martin's Church in Bladon near Woodstock.
It is also the mother church of St. Mary Magdalene at Woodstock, which was originally a chapel of ease and is best known for the grave of Sir Winston Churchill in its churchyard.

Continue north to Blenheim Palace, home to the 11th Duke and Duchess of Marlborough and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. Set in 2100 acres of beautiful parkland landscaped by "Capability" Brown, the magnificent Palace is surrounded by sweeping lawns, award-winning formal gardens and the great Lake. Overnight Lygon Arms Broadway.
Day 2 Cotswolds-Bath: This morning we continue exploring the Cotswold's. We continue through the English countryside on your way to Bath. The Spa town of Bath is regarded as the best-preserved Georgian city in Britain built among the trees and hillsides of the Avon Valley.

A UNESCO world heritage site, Bath is home to endless rows and terraces of grand Georgian architecture such as the Royal Crescent overlooking open garden squares. The impressive 13th century Abbey lies at the heart of the city's cobbled streets and fashionable shops and arcades whilst Baths crowning glory is the must-see, marvelously preserved Roman Temple, Baths and Pump Room. Overnight Francis Hotel.
Day 3 Bath, Stonehenge & Salisbury-Bath: We depart and head to Stonehenge. 5,000 years ago, these huge 40-ton rocks were dragged to the lonely, windy plain of Salisbury hill. You'll get time to learn more about this iconic monument steeped in mystery and legend!
Then i''s on to Salisbury where we'll visit the finest medieval Cathedral in Britain.

In the Chapter House you will see the Magna Carta, the famous agreement made between King John and his barons in 1215. It is then bath to Bath Overnight Francis Hotel
