The landscape of dental examination and treatment is changing rapidly with the increase in technology. It is becoming more important for dentists to screen for sleep apnea. Making intraoral appliances for sleep apnea can seem to be overwhelming but can be overcome with training. Dentists can provide these oral appliances working with their sleep physicians. This service is very rewarding to our patients that cannot wear the CPAP.
Many of our patients suffer from oral facial pain and are seeking relief that can only be provided by dentists. Proper screening will identify these patients and you can treat or refer them. Many of these patients have been told that there is nothing that can be done but with the proper knowledge we can treat or refer them.
The identification of sleep and oral facial pain will be demonstrated and the uses of comprehensive examination, intraoral scanning, 3D printing and CBCT will be highlighted.
Learning Objectives for Dentists and Staff:
Identify signs and symptoms of sleep disordered breathing and occlusomuscle disorders.
Understand dental treatment and referral options for sleep apnea and occlusomuscle pain.
Understand the use of CBCT and intraoral 3D scanning used to discover dental conditions and educate their patients about their diagnosis and treatment options.
Use open-ended questions to discover underlying dental and medical issues that affect the patient's overall health.
Open patient conversations to educate patients about the benefits of early diagnosis and preventive measures affecting upper airway development.
Improve staff communication skills with patients and other staff members.
Create a safe and happy environment for one and all.

PORTS OF CALL
Miami, Florida
Miami is far more than the world’s busiest cruise port; it’s a destination that deserves its own chapter in your vacation story. We strongly encourage our clients to view Miami not as a logistical hurdle before their cruise, but as the vibrant, culturally rich opening act. Arriving a day or two early does more than just eliminate the stress of same-day travel—it allows you to immerse yourself in the energy of one of America's most dynamic cities, ensuring you step onto your ship already relaxed and in a vacation state of mind.
**Your Pre-Cruise Miami Itinerary**
Upon arriving at Miami International Airport (MIA) or Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), a rideshare or taxi can have you settled into your hotel in South Beach, Brickell, or Downtown in under 30 minutes. We recommend choosing your neighborhood based on your preferred style: South Beach for the iconic Art Deco glamour and beach access, or Brickell for a sleek, modern urban experience with a fantastic dining scene.
**Day 1: Arrival, Architecture, and Atmosphere**
After checking in, spend your first afternoon acquainting yourself with the iconic scenery of South Beach. This isn't just a party destination; it's a protected architectural district. Take a leisurely stroll along Ocean Drive to admire the pastel-hued Art Deco masterpieces. For a more tranquil experience, head to South Pointe Park at the southern tip of the island. Here, you can watch ships glide through Government Cut against the backdrop of the downtown skyline—a perfect, low-key introduction to the city's maritime soul.
For dinner, bypass the tourist-heavy spots on Ocean Drive and explore the sophisticated restaurants in the South of Fifth (SoFi) neighborhood or the diverse, international options in Brickell. This is your chance to enjoy a world-class meal without a schedule, from fresh, locally-sourced seafood to innovative Latin American cuisine.
**Day 2: A Tale of Two Cultures**
Start your day the way Miamians do: with a shot of authentic Cuban culture. Head to Little Havana and walk the famous Calle Ocho. Find a *ventanita* (a small walk-up coffee window) and order a potent, sweet *cafecito* and a flaky *pastelito* (guava pastry is the classic). The experience is about more than just the coffee; it's about the sounds of Spanish, the rhythm of salsa music, and the sight of locals debating over a game of dominoes at Máximo Gómez Park. It’s an accessible, genuine cultural immersion.
In the afternoon, witness the city’s stunning contrasts. First, visit the Wynwood Walls, an extraordinary outdoor museum of large-scale murals by some of the world's best street artists. The surrounding neighborhood is a canvas in itself, with vibrant art on nearly every building. It’s a visual feast that’s both contemporary and completely approachable.
From there, travel back in time at the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens. This Gilded Age estate, with its Italian Renaissance-inspired villa and sprawling formal gardens on the edge of Biscayne Bay, offers a glimpse into Miami's opulent past. The juxtaposition of Wynwood's modern grit and Vizcaya's timeless elegance perfectly encapsulates the city's multifaceted character.
**Embarkation Day**
Wake up refreshed and without pressure. Enjoy a final Miami breakfast before taking a short 15-20 minute ride to the Port of Miami. You’ll arrive calm and collected, having already banked two days of enriching travel experiences. By treating the start of your journey with this much intention, you don't just see a port city—you connect with it, making your entire vacation more memorable from the very first moment.
Coco Cay, Bahamas
Let's be clear: Coco Cay is not a port for cultural immersion; it's a private island meticulously engineered for a perfect day of sun and fun. Think of it as a high-end water park and beach club rolled into one, accessible right off the ship. The island is divided into distinct zones, from the high-energy Thrill Waterpark with its impressive slides to the sprawling Oasis Lagoon, one of the largest freshwater pools in the Caribbean.
For those seeking relaxation, several white-sand beaches offer a classic tropical escape. If you're looking for a more exclusive, serene experience, the Coco Beach Club provides a quieter atmosphere with an infinity pool and overwater cabanas, available for an additional fee. While you won't find local markets or historical sites here, Coco Cay delivers exactly what it promises: a seamless, high-quality day of resort-style leisure and aquatic adventure.
At Sea - Cruising
Cozumel, Mexico
Let's be direct: Cozumel is one of the world's busiest cruise ports, and it's essential to have a plan to navigate the crowds and find its genuine highlights. The island's global reputation is built on what lies just offshore: the Mesoamerican Reef, the second-largest barrier reef system in the world. For divers and snorkelers, this is a premier, bucket-list destination. The clear, warm water and vibrant coral formations of sites like the Palancar and Colombia reefs are genuinely world-class. For an accessible taste without a dedicated boat trip, parks like Chankanaab or the more remote Punta Sur Eco Beach Park offer excellent snorkeling directly from shore, combined with beaches and other amenities.
Many are drawn by the allure of Mayan ruins, but here’s a critical piece of advice: the famous sites like Tulum and Coba are on the mainland, not on Cozumel. Reaching them requires a 45-minute ferry to Playa del Carmen and then a bus journey, consuming nearly your entire day. While magnificent, choosing this option means forgoing the island experience entirely. It's a trade-off you must be comfortable with.
If you stay on the island, the main town of San Miguel offers a bustling waterfront and a dizzying array of shops. We recommend walking a few blocks inland from the main tourist thoroughfare to find more authentic local restaurants for a fantastic lunch. For pure relaxation, Cozumel’s beach clubs are a popular and effective choice. They range from lively, all-inclusive party spots with water toys to more serene, upscale retreats where the focus is on a good book and a great cocktail. You can easily find one that matches your pace. Cozumel is a highly developed tourism hub that excels at water sports and beach relaxation; embrace it for these strengths, and you’ll have a fantastic day.
Georgetown, Grand Cayman
Grand Cayman offers a distinctly polished and pristine version of the Caribbean experience. As a major financial hub, the island feels safe, clean, and exceptionally well-organized, making for a seamless and relaxing day ashore. It’s important to note that this is a tender port; your ship will anchor offshore, and you’ll take a smaller boat to the pier, so be sure to factor that time into your plans.
The island’s reputation is built on two world-class attractions. The first is the legendary Seven Mile Beach, a magnificent crescent of soft, white sand and impossibly clear turquoise water. While it’s no secret, its beauty is undeniable. You can easily grab a taxi from the port and find a public access point or settle in at one of the many beach clubs for the day. The second must-do is Stingray City. This isn't a contrived tourist trap; it's a natural sandbar where southern stingrays have gathered for decades. Standing in waist-deep water as these gentle, graceful creatures glide around you is a truly unforgettable experience.
Beyond these highlights, you can visit the Cayman Turtle Centre, a conservation and education facility that’s particularly popular with families. The town of Georgetown itself is compact and walkable, known for its high-end duty-free shopping, especially for jewelry and watches. While it lacks deep historical architecture, it’s a pleasant place for a stroll and a meal. For a taste of local flavor, find a casual spot for some conch fritters or fresh ceviche before tendering back to your ship.
Falmouth, Jamaica
Falmouth offers a tale of two distinct experiences. The purpose-built cruise port is a modern, clean, and secure village of shops and cafes—a comfortable and familiar starting point. Just beyond its gates lies the authentic, historic town of Falmouth, which boasts some of the Caribbean's best-preserved Georgian architecture. While historically significant, the town can feel intense for independent explorers; we find a guided walking tour is the best way to appreciate its rich past without feeling overwhelmed.
Frankly, Falmouth's greatest strength is its strategic location as a launchpad for Jamaica's iconic North Coast adventures. This is your best port for the classic bamboo raft trip down the gentle Martha Brae River—a truly serene experience just minutes away. It also provides excellent access to the lush Good Hope Estate for zip-lining and river tubing, or for the bucket-list climb up the world-famous Dunn's River Falls. Our advice is to view Falmouth not as the primary destination, but as your well-organized gateway to the quintessential Jamaican experiences you've been dreaming of.
