Cardiac conduction system
- Describe the origination and conduction of cardiac action potentials and how disturbances might lead to arrhythmias.
Blood flow and its regulation
- Identify the differences between local or organ/tissue blood flow and its regulation vs cardiac output and its control.
Renal structure and function
- Identify renal structure and function, be able to separate the structure of the juxtaglomerular apparatus from the physiology of GFR.
Respiratory exchange, transport and regulation
- Improve understanding of the exchange, transport and regulation of respiratory gases, but also their understanding of respiration/ventilation in general.
Acetaminophen and cardioprotection

Your exploration can begin just steps from the cruise terminal. Downtown Tampa has undergone a remarkable renaissance, centered around its stunning Riverwalk. This 2.6-mile pedestrian path traces the Hillsborough River, connecting a string of cultural gems. You can stroll or rent a water taxi to visit the Tampa Museum of Art, with its impressive collection of Greek and Roman antiquities, or the Tampa Bay History Center, which offers a fascinating narrative of the region’s past, from its indigenous roots to its role as a Gilded Age port. For those whose idea of rejuvenation involves sun, sand, and saltwater, the Gulf Coast beaches are magnificent and easily accessible. While many flock to the lively shores of Clearwater Beach, we recommend the more serene experience of Fort De Soto Park. Named America’s Top Beach on multiple occasions, it’s a rare jewel—a vast, protected park with miles of pristine white sand, free from the visual clutter of high-rise hotels and condos. It’s a place for quiet reflection, bird watching, and soaking in unspoiled nature. St. Pete Beach offers a classic resort-town feel, with historic hotels and beachfront cafes perfect for watching the sunset.

Should your schedule allow for a more extended stay, the cultural treasures of Sarasota are just an hour to the south. Here, you can explore the Ca' d'Zan, the palatial Venetian-Gothic mansion of circus magnate John Ringling, and the adjacent John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, which holds a world-class collection of European paintings. And for the young or young-at-heart in your party, the theme parks of Orlando, including Walt Disney World, are a manageable 75-minute drive away, making for an easy day trip.

At Sea - Cruising

Cozumel, Mexico

Let's be direct: Cozumel is one of the world's busiest cruise ports, and it's essential to have a plan to navigate the crowds and find its genuine highlights. The island's global reputation is built on what lies just offshore: the Mesoamerican Reef, the second-largest barrier reef system in the world. For divers and snorkelers, this is a premier, bucket-list destination. The clear, warm water and vibrant coral formations of sites like the Palancar and Colombia reefs are genuinely world-class. For an accessible taste without a dedicated boat trip, parks like Chankanaab or the more remote Punta Sur Eco Beach Park offer excellent snorkeling directly from shore, combined with beaches and other amenities.

Many are drawn by the allure of Mayan ruins, but here’s a critical piece of advice: the famous sites like Tulum and Coba are on the mainland, not on Cozumel. Reaching them requires a 45-minute ferry to Playa del Carmen and then a bus journey, consuming nearly your entire day. While magnificent, choosing this option means forgoing the island experience entirely. It's a trade-off you must be comfortable with.

If you stay on the island, the main town of San Miguel offers a bustling waterfront and a dizzying array of shops. We recommend walking a few blocks inland from the main tourist thoroughfare to find more authentic local restaurants for a fantastic lunch. For pure relaxation, Cozumel’s beach clubs are a popular and effective choice. They range from lively, all-inclusive party spots with water toys to more serene, upscale retreats where the focus is on a good book and a great cocktail. You can easily find one that matches your pace. Cozumel is a highly developed tourism hub that excels at water sports and beach relaxation; embrace it for these strengths, and you’ll have a fantastic day.

Belize City, Belize

Belize City is best understood not as a destination to be explored on its own, but as the gateway to Central America's most profound natural and historical treasures. The port itself is a tender port, bringing you to a tourist village that serves as a functional launchpad for excursions. The real Belize experience begins here.

The primary draw is the Belize Barrier Reef, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Day trips to nearby cayes offer world-class snorkeling opportunities amid vibrant coral gardens, sea turtles, and gentle rays. The real cultural highlight, however, is the access to lesser-visited Mayan ruins. An excursion to the Chacchoben ruins offers a fascinating and accessible glimpse into ancient history, set within the jungle and free from the overwhelming crowds of more famous sites. For pure natural beauty, the nearby Bacalar Lagoon—the famed “Lagoon of Seven Colors”—provides a stunningly beautiful and tranquil setting for a day on the water.
