PROGRAM PURPOSE

Tuesday, October 7, 2025

  • 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM – So Little Room, So Much to See (The Complete Pediatric Dental Exam)

Every pediatric dental examination is a new patient examination because of the dynamics of growth and development. There is much to see in the mouths of children other than caries and loose teeth. This program covers aspects of the pediatric dental examination including recognition of anomalies, growth and development, symmetry and balance of the dentition and other components that make examinations on children unique. Clinical and radiographic photographs illustrate the areas of discussion.

  • 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM – The Latest in Pediatric Dentistry

So, what's new in the world of pediatric dentistry? Indications for and treatment of pulpotomies and non-vital primary teeth have changed, the variety of full coverage crowns has exploded, faster and painless anesthesia is now a real possibility, minimally invasive treatment is more popular, and more emphasis is now being placed on obstructive sleep apnea, its etiology and how to treat it effectively. These topics will bring dentists more fully informed about developments in pediatric dentistry.

Friday, October 10, 2025

  • 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM – The Care and Feeding of a Healthy Brain

Let's better understand the workings of our brain. Maximizing our brain health creates a life replete with vitality, resilience, and optimal well-being. Learn how your daily food choices are a foundation for better brain and overall health. Discover ways to increase your neuroplasticity by incorporating realistic strategies. You will deal more easily and effectively with your patients, as well as your family and friends, when your brain is working efficiently.

  • 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM – Behavior Management of Patients, Parents and Yourself

Pediatric dentistry requires dentists to successfully communicate with and manage the behavior of both children and parents. They must also manage their own behavior as well. Techniques are discussed and shown in videos of patients in treatment. Dental training focuses on technical aspects, but for children excellent care is only possible with proper handling of patients. Parents are often the entertainment and not the “problem” that most believe.

Saturday, October 11, 2025

  • 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM – The Power of a Healthy Biome

Scientific evidence continues to mount for the importance of feeding and caring for your biome. It is intimately connected with your brain health, immune system, and much more. Learn ways to tweak your daily eating for significant health strides. A busy life does not preclude a happy, healthy biome.

  • 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM – Dealing with Parent Demands

Patients come into our practices and question treatment recommendations because of their “knowledge” gleaned from the internet. We will explore how to deal with this, including issues such as x-rays, esthetic crowns and fluoride. These tools will help dentists to communicate effectively when faced with demands from patients.

PORTS OF CALL

Orlando (Port Canaveral), Florida

Most travelers view Port Canaveral as a simple point of departure, a functional gateway to the Caribbean. We encourage you to see it differently: as the anchor for a comprehensive Central Florida journey that pairs the awe-inspiring history of space exploration with the world-class entertainment of Orlando. Because your cruise begins and ends here, you have a unique opportunity to craft a richer, more diverse vacation by adding a few days on either side. This isn't just about killing time; it's about transforming your trip into two distinct, memorable experiences.

**The Cerebral Adventure: The Space Coast**

Before you set sail, or upon your return, immerse yourself in the profound story of human ingenuity that unfolded right here. The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is not a theme park; it's a living museum and an active launch site that commands a full, unhurried day. We advise clients to bypass the superficial glance and engage deeply. Stand in the shadow of the colossal Saturn V rocket—the sheer scale of which is genuinely humbling—and contemplate the ambition it represents. Experience the Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit, where the craft itself is revealed in a dramatic, moving presentation. For those who grew up with the shuttle program, it’s a powerful moment. The newer Gateway: The Deep Space Launch Complex offers a compelling look at the future of interstellar travel, while the Shuttle Launch Experience provides a visceral, if simulated, taste of ascending to orbit. This is a place that inspires, educates, and leaves a lasting impression far beyond that of a typical tourist attraction.

Beyond the complex, the Space Coast offers a quieter, more natural side. The adjacent Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge is a sanctuary for hundreds of species of birds, manatees, and alligators. A drive or hike through this protected land provides a serene counterpoint to the technological marvels next door. For a classic Florida experience, head just south to Cocoa Beach. While it’s a quintessential beach town, it has an authentic surf culture heritage—home to the iconic Ron Jon Surf Shop and a laid-back vibe. Enjoy a casual, waterfront meal at a place like Grills Seafood Deck & Tiki Bar, watching the cruise ships and fishing boats glide by as you decompress.

**The Epicenter of Imagination: Orlando**

Just under an hour’s drive west lies Orlando, a destination many dismiss as being solely for families. This is a mistake. For the discerning adult traveler, Orlando offers a wealth of sophisticated entertainment, culinary experiences, and cultural depth. If you do choose to engage with the theme parks, we recommend a targeted approach. Instead of trying to “do it all,” select one or two experiences that align with your interests. The immersive world-building of *Star Wars*: Galaxy's Edge at Disney's Hollywood Studios or The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort is a masterclass in environmental storytelling that can be appreciated on a purely artistic level.

For a more relaxed but equally engaging experience, consider Epcot, particularly during one of its acclaimed festivals, like the International Food & Wine Festival in the fall or the Flower & Garden Festival in the spring. These events transform the park into a global showcase of cuisine, horticulture, and culture that is decidedly geared toward an adult palate.

**Beyond the Parks: Orlando's Cultured Core**

To truly appreciate the region, venture beyond the theme park bubble. We highly recommend a day in Winter Park, a charming, upscale enclave just north of downtown Orlando. Stroll down Park Avenue, a cobblestone street lined with independent boutiques and excellent cafes. Visit The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art, which holds the world’s most comprehensive collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany—the chapel interior alone is worth the visit. A scenic boat tour through the city's chain of lakes offers a glimpse of historic estates and lush, sub-tropical landscapes. For dinner, Winter Park offers superb options like Prato, known for its inventive Italian fare, or The Ravenous Pig, a pioneer of Florida's gastropub scene.

**Logistics and Planning**

Navigating Central Florida is straightforward. Most travelers fly into Orlando International Airport (MCO). From there, you have several options:

* **Rental Car:** Offers the most flexibility for exploring both Orlando and the Space Coast. The drive from MCO to Port Canaveral is a straight shot on Route 528, taking about 45-50 minutes.
* **Ride-Sharing/Private Car Service:** Convenient for direct transfers, though costs can add up if you plan multiple trips between the coast and the city.
* **Cruise Line Shuttles:** A simple but less flexible option for getting directly between the airport and the port.

We suggest this itinerary: Fly into MCO and spend two nights near Orlando, exploring Winter Park one day and a chosen park or district the next. On embarkation day, arrange a transfer to Port Canaveral in the morning, perhaps stopping for a final brunch before boarding your ship. Alternatively, upon your return, take a shuttle directly to a hotel near Kennedy Space Center, spend the afternoon relaxing, and dedicate the next day to the Visitor Complex before flying home. By strategically adding these days, you gain a far deeper appreciation for what Central Florida truly has to offer.

Coco Cay, Bahamas

Let's be clear: Coco Cay is not a port for cultural immersion; it's a private island meticulously engineered for a perfect day of sun and fun. Think of it as a high-end water park and beach club rolled into one, accessible right off the ship. The island is divided into distinct zones, from the high-energy Thrill Waterpark with its impressive slides to the sprawling Oasis Lagoon, one of the largest freshwater pools in the Caribbean.

For those seeking relaxation, several white-sand beaches offer a classic tropical escape. If you're looking for a more exclusive, serene experience, the Coco Beach Club provides a quieter atmosphere with an infinity pool and overwater cabanas, available for an additional fee. While you won't find local markets or historical sites here, Coco Cay delivers exactly what it promises: a seamless, high-quality day of resort-style leisure and aquatic adventure.

At Sea - Cruising

San Juan, Puerto Rico

San Juan is one of the most rewarding and historically significant ports in the Caribbean, and its greatest asset is proximity. Your ship docks at the edge of Old San Juan, a 500-year-old walled city that is a destination in its own right. Forget the organized bus tours; this is a port best explored on foot.

Step off the ship and you are immediately immersed in the atmosphere of blue cobblestone streets and pastel-hued colonial architecture. Your primary objective should be exploring the two massive Spanish citadels that bookend the old city. Start with Castillo San Cristóbal, the largest Spanish fort in the Americas, then enjoy the scenic one-mile walk along the city wall to the iconic Castillo San Felipe del Morro, which has guarded the harbor entrance for centuries. The scale and preservation of these UNESCO World Heritage sites are genuinely impressive.

Beyond the forts, the joy of San Juan is in the wandering. Discover shaded plazas, artisan shops on Calle del Cristo, and the famous Fortaleza Street. For a taste of authentic Puerto Rican cuisine, find a local spot for *mofongo* (a savory dish of mashed plantains) or enjoy a classic piña colada at Barrachina, one of the bars that claims to have invented it. While the famous beaches of Condado and Isla Verde are an option, they require a taxi and can consume valuable time. For a port day, the tangible history, vibrant culture, and culinary delights within the city walls offer a more than fulfilling experience.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

St. Maarten offers one of the most distinct experiences in the Caribbean: the chance to visit two countries in a single day. Your ship docks in Philipsburg, the capital of the Dutch side (Sint Maarten), a bustling hub of activity. The town itself is built along a beautiful arc of sand, Great Bay Beach, with a lively boardwalk perfect for a stroll. This is the commercial heart of the island, known for its extensive duty-free shopping, particularly for jewelry, electronics, and local spirits like the iconic Guavaberry Liqueur.

For a complete change of pace, a short taxi ride transports you to the French side (Saint-Martin). Here, the atmosphere shifts to something more akin to the French Riviera. The capital, Marigot, offers a more relaxed vibe with chic boutiques, open-air markets, and charming bistros serving fresh croissants and coffee. For the food-focused traveler, a visit to Grand Case is essential; it’s widely regarded as the culinary capital of the Caribbean, with an impressive collection of world-class restaurants.

Of course, the beaches are a primary draw. While there are dozens to choose from, Maho Beach is a spectacle you won’t forget. It’s not a place for quiet relaxation, but for the unique thrill of watching massive jets land just feet above your head. For a more classic Caribbean beach day, Orient Bay on the French side offers a wide expanse of white sand and turquoise water. St. Maarten’s appeal lies in this choice—you can curate your day to be as high-energy or as relaxed as you wish.

Allianz Travel Insurance plans can protect you before and during your trip—keeping you, your loved ones, and your travel budget safer. Benefits vary by plan, and these are brief descriptions. Please read your plan documents for details.

TRIP CANCELLATION

Reimburses your prepaid, non-refundable travel expenses if you need to cancel your trip due to a covered reason, such as you, a family member, or traveling companion experiencing a covered illness or injury. Examples include:

  • A doctor says you or a traveling companion is too sick to fly
  • Your parent or child requires hospitalization
  • You need to attend the birth of a family member’s child
  • You have a traffic accident (not breakdown) on the way to the airport
  • A storm shuts down your airport for 24 hours or more

TRIP INTERRUPTION

Reimburses your unused, non-refundable travel expenses and increased transportation costs during your trip if you have to return home early due to a covered reason, for instance when a family member has a qualifying medical emergency and needs your care. Examples include:

  • You have a covered illness or injury and a doctor says you must return home
  • A family member has a qualifying injury and needs your care
  • A covered emergency, like a fire or flood, makes your home uninhabitable

TRAVEL DELAY

If you have a covered delay while traveling, travel insurance can reimburse you for meals, accommodations, and transportation expenses when your trip is delayed for a minimum number of consecutive hours for a covered reason. Minimum number of hours varies by plan.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL AND DENTAL CARE

Reimburses your expenses related to covered medical and dental emergencies* that might occur on your trip. This benefit can be especially helpful if you have a covered emergency outside the United States, as most health insurance policies won’t cover you outside the country. Examples include:

  • You slip and break your ankle while sightseeing
  • You get food poisoning while sampling the local cuisine
  • You lose a filling and need immediate dental treatment*

*A sublimit and maximum apply for this benefit. Check your plan documents for details.
