Dr. Charles "Scott" Mahan is an infectious disease doctor certified in tropical medicine. He is active in teaching medical students, medical residents, and staff clinicians. He is a clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at both the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. He currently works in Asheville NC, previously having done clinical work and research in Ghana, Zambia, and Uganda. He continues to go on regular medical missions in the developing world. Dr. Mahan is co-author of the popular book Clinical Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple and author of Are you Afraid of Snakes? A doctor's exploration of Alternative Medicine. Areas of interest include clinical tropical medicine, tuberculosis, and HIV. He is happily married and the father of three boys: Connor, David, and Thayer.
